Superfly is the ultimate party band! With an energetic blend of Funk, Motown, R&B, Soul, Classic Rock, and Jazz Funk we cater to any event to ensure that the mood and energy is just right. Superfly is a 6 piece band featuring bass, drums, keyboards, guitar, saxophone, flute, and trumpet. We have been performing shows and festivals for over 10 years as a group and have played venues that include Casino Windsor and Festivals around Southwestern Ontario that have included opening for the Beach Boys in 2015.
“Tricky” Nicky Novosad
The origins of Nick AKA Trix are mysterious at best. One thing that is certain is that wherever and however his existence came to be, it was an unfortunate day for pianos everywhere as his heavy percussive playing style has laid waste to an uncountable number of piano and keyboard keys. Nick has been playing professionally in bands since he was 16 years old, and the stage presence that he displays exemplifies this. He has performed with bands throughout southwestern Ontario such as Electric Voodoo, Pocket Chocolate, Mechanical Farm Hands, Felonious Monk, Superfly, and a number of others as well as the occasional solo performance. His main influences are Stevie Wonder, Dr. John, Ray Manzarek, Robert Walters and Bob Marley.
Byron “Big Daddy” Harrett
Byron Harrett is one of Southwest Ontario’s most in demand reedmen. The versatility, of this Humber College alum, between all the saxophone family, flute and clarinet has him playing everything from pit orchestras for musical revues to swing bands to tribute artists shows to small jazz ensembles. He has performed with Davey Jones and Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees, The Platters, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra Jr., Frankie Valli, The Temptations, The Four Tops and many others. He loves to let his influence from great sax players such as Maceo Parker, Jr. Walker, and Michael Brecker shine through as he rips funky solos over the great tunes performed by Superfly.
Steve “Kid Dynamite” Walker
Steve Walker is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, guitarist and singer. He began his professional career playing in local bars and halls when was just 19 playing bass guitar in a band called the Zoo Station. Since then he has played venues spanning Canada as well as other countries while travelling for various jobs. He has always enjoyed writing and producing his own material as well as frequently collaborating with others on side projects. He has enjoyed being an integral part of Superfly since it took form in 2005. Steve has been a featured performer at various Bluesfests, and Guitar Summits over the last several years.
Justin “The Juice” McMath
Justin is a Lover of all music, Rock, Jazz, Reggae, Motown and all things funky. He has been playing professionally for over 20 years. He is currently a music teacher and has been teaching musical instruction for over 10 years.
Some of his favourite musicians and influences include Bill Frisell, Ray Brown, Jimi Hendrix, and James Jamerson to name a few. His favourite bands are the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and MMW.
When not funking things up he enjoys single malt scotch, hockey, the great outdoors and of course listening to music
Justin also has a penchant for sewing quilts, and collecting butterfly wings.
Nick “Junior” Sennema
Nick Sennema (a.k.a. Junior) started playing the drums at any early age. Introduced to music by his older brother who played guitar and who helped him formulate his first band. His roots started with mainly rock/alternative music, however was able to learn quickly and develop an interest in learning various styles and increasing his ability on the drums.
Later on, he was able to play a part within several diverse local groups such as: Us and Omens, S.U.D.S., AWI, Black Dog , The Gentleman’s Band, Hundred Proof, Sarah Hiltz and Friends, before obtaining a permanent role within Superfly. Nick also moonlights as a drum teacher through Franks Music Center. His history of playing with a wide variety of diverse groups helps lend his abilities to the various styling’s in which Superfly is most famous for.
Matty "Keepin' it Funky" Brunke
Matty has been playing trumpet since he was 11 years old,and is an alumni of Humber College of Music. He has been playing professionally since the age of 14. Right after college he cut his teeth on the East Coast with a funk band from NYC ‘Street Life’. Some of the many artists he has played with include : Spencer Davis, James Cotton, Crowbar, Jim Eaves Band, Buzz Thompson, and Martha Reeves. Musical Influences are many and varied, including Miles Davis, Randy Brecker, Todd Rundgren, Little Feat, Tower of Power and on, and on. His most recent musical endeavour is re-living his youth with analog modular synthesizers.
